BOSTON (CBS) – The New England Patriots added some more depth to their defensive line on Wednesday, signing lineman Jonathan Fanene to a three-year contract.
Fanene played all seven of his NFL seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, logging a career high 6.5 sacks in 2011. He added 24 tackles to go with a pair of fumble recoveries on a Bengals defense that ranked in the Top 10 against the run.

Felger & Mazz: Pats Sign Fanene
The deal is worth $12 million with a $3.85 million signing bonus, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
A seventh-round pick out of Utah in 2005, Fanene will give the Patriots some versatility on the defensive line as he played at both end and tackle for the Bengals. His signing could be bigger depending on what happens with free agents Mark Anderson and Andre Carter.
