Man Allegedly Punches, Bites Ear Of Springfield Youth Basketball Coach

SPRINGFIELD (AP) — Springfield police are looking for a man they say punched and bit off part of the ear of a coach following a youth basketball game.

Police say the man attacked the winning coach as the Catholic Youth Organization teams of fifth- and sixth-graders shook hands at the end of the game Friday night at the Holy Name school.

The coach needed treatment for his injuries.

One witness described the following fracas as "a free for all."

Police says there have been no arrests but they know the name of the person they're looking for.

A spokesman for the Diocese of Springfield said neither team was affiliated with the church or school.
