Man Arrested For Allegedly Biting, Punching Youth Coach

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Springfield police have arrested a man they say punched and bit off part of the ear of a coach following a youth basketball game.

Police say the man attacked the winning coach as the Catholic Youth Organization teams of fifth- and sixth-graders shook hands at the end of the game Friday night at the Holy Name school. They said the coach needed treatment to reattach part of his ear.

Authorities identified the alleged attacker Monday as 34-year-old Timothy Lee Forbes of Springfield, the losing team's assistant coach. It's not immediately known if he has a lawyer.

Forbes faces three felonies, including mayhem and assault and battery, and a misdemeanor disorderly person charge.

One witness described the fracas as "a free for all." A Springfield Diocese spokesman said neither team was affiliated with the church or school.
