BOSTON (CBS) – You soon will be able to have a beer with your Fribble at one Friendly’s in Massachusetts.
The Chicopee City Council unanimously approved a permit Thursday that will allow the Friendly’s on Memorial Drive to serve beer and wine, along with food and ice cream.
Sales won’t start right away. There’s a 20-day appeal period in the event anyone wants to dispute the permit.
A spokesperson for the City Council told WBZ-TV Friday that Friendly’s might also need permission from the Liquor Licensing Board.
The Chicopee Friendly’s is believed to be the first in the restaurant’s chain to be allowed to serve beer and wine.
Friendly’s is looking for ways to win back customers.
It filed for bankruptcy protection in October 2011, shut down 100 of its restaurants and laid off about 2,000 employees.
The company just came out of Chapter 11.
Friendly’s was founded in 1935.
