Turco Clears Waivers, Joins Bruins

BOSTON (CBS) - Goaltender Marty Turco has cleared waivers and is free to join the Boston Bruins for the rest of the regular season.

Turco, who played in Austria this year, signed a one-year deal with Boston on Monday, but needed to clear waivers before joining the team.

The 36-year-old took the ice with his new team for practice shortly after clearing waivers Wednesday's afternoon.

Turco is not be eligible to play in the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs, as he is joining the club after the NHL trade deadline. He will help get Tim Thomas some rest as the regular season winds down, with Tuukka Rask out 4-6 weeks with a groin injury.

A 10-year NHL veteran, Turco has played in 538 regular season games with the Dallas Stars and Chicago Blackhawks.
