Murray, Tsongas, Kerry Hope To Keep Hanscom Open

BEDFORD (CBS) – Lt. Gov. Tim Murray led Sen. John Kerry and Rep. Niki Tsongas Monday on a tour of one of the state’s military bases that may be closed due to national budget cuts.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Kim Tunnicliffe reports.

Murray, Kerry and Tsongas listened to Air Force personnel explain the role that programs and missions developed at Hanscom Air Force Base play in keeping our country safe.

Murray said the goal of the tour was to keep Massachusetts military bases open.

“We know that we’ve got a tough challenge ahead, there’s going to be contraction within a defensive budget,” said Murray. “We want to just know what we can do to maximize some of the strategic strengths we’ve got in Massachusetts and the tour and the conversations are about how we do that.”

Murray has formed a task force to unify support for military jobs in an effort to keep the state’s bases off the federal chopping block.

All people do these days is complain about the high cost of National Defense. Now it is being scaled back and bases/functions are being combined to eliminate duplication, and excssive spending. But the minute it might hit their own area it’s one of those NIMBY complaints. Can’t always have it both ways.

watertown arsenal ,charlestown navy yard weymouth air base, quincy shipyard, are the most notable of the many military bases closed over the years when we supposedly had powerful democrats representing us.(most notably the Kennedys ,Franks and O’Neills) They still brag about the social programs they bought to the state and not a word is said about the many thousands of well paying, middle class jobs, that they ignored. They have what they want after all these years,a dependent election base and an equally large government employee election base that services the disadvantaged all with medical, ebt, subsidized housing and all the other perks that ease the tortured liberal soul.

You are so right on, Bill. The Democratic base are those who use more taxes than they pay. The Democrat’s continuous goal is to widen that base and buy votes with government programs.

Because MA is so strongly democratic no one in govt cares about the state. The democrats and republicans know that we will always vote democrat, and so we are ignored. For every dollar we pay in taxes we get about $0.80 back. Key states and battleground states such as CA and OH get more back than they put in, and they don’t see the military base closings like us. Don’t blame our representatives for being incompetent, blame ourselves for continually re-electing them.
