BOSTON (CBS) – Politicians, religious leaders, and churchgoers all banded together Sunday to rally to save the historic Charles Street AME church, which has been threatened with possible foreclosure.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Doug Cope reports.
The church was packed with people from around the city, rallying to save the church from possible foreclosure by One United Bank.
“We stand united, united in this fight to make sure that we continue to have Charles Street AME Church right here in beloved, dear ‘ol Roxbury,” said Mayor Tom Menino.
The Reverend Jeffrey Brown of the Ten Point Coalition also offered his support.
“I’ve come here tonight to save the Charles Street AME Church. Don’t worry about it, God’s got your back,” said Brown.
