Group Probing Reported UFO Near Acton-Littleton Line

ACTON (CBS) – A local UFO investigative organization wants to uncover the truth about a strange object reported in the skies near the Acton-Littleton line last year.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Laurie Kirby reports.

The driver, riding along Route 2, looked up into the sky last July and saw a strange object.

“As he was driving along, it caught his eye,” said Steve Firmani, head of the New England chapter of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).

The driver described it as a reflective, black, tube-shaped thing traveling eastbound.

“(The driver) described it as 30 feet long, 6 feet in diameter, 200 to 300 feet in the air,” said Firmani. “I guess it was described as a spinning cylinder type of object.”

Firmani said MUFON has been investigating UFO sightings for more than 40 years, and that they are “trained to identify things before we can call something unidentified.”

He admits the object could have been nothing extraterrestrial.

“It could have been a piece of debris tumbling in the wind,” said Firmani.

Or… could it be the real deal? What do you think?

you’re an idiot for making such an obtuse comment

    • gramps

It’s a ‘hockey puck’ tossed from Lynn…….One of the 200 goals scored by the 9 year old, whose Mother, big mouth’d ‘Hockey mum Holly’ got him tossed out of the league!

      • emom

HAHAHA I bet it was ,,, Hi Gramps.

We prefer to ridicule that which we do not understand rather than learn and discover. This is what we have been trained to do by our media and government.

We really don’t care what may or may not be flying in our skies as long as we have our recliners and manicured lawns and SUVs…

    • Truthmom

Refreshing, that occasionally someone is paying attention…

    • Dave_D

Oh please! Someone belonging to a group such as MUFON deserves ridicule.

      Just visit their website.

  • timma

i wonder if they know the boston UFO observers network (BUFOON)

  • Wurkbd

I think it is a slow day in the news for this to make it to the front page…

  • Ted

What do I think? I think that these things should be investigated thoroughly before they are out in the public domain and become open season for every speculative loser out there. From True Believers to sarcastic a-holes, the entire discussion is not only useless, unhelpful, but its also damaging and destructive and probably dangerous as well…. Fact is that we are learning that we are surrounded by planetary bodies capable of harboring life… intelligent life. NASAs last estimate was that in the Milky Way alone there are 2billion earth like planets… and if we are dealing with Alien incursions,if even one of the thousands of reports made every year are what they are described as, then we had better be able to identify it and respond to it with agility and common sense… So far, that isn’t possible and we are simply intellectualizing our way through the problem, whistling past the graveyard, while we act like we actually know what is going on in the Universe. Funny how we claim that things like Inflation Theory are common sense but we don’t look at what that cosmology means for life and intelligent life in the Universe… We embrace cosmologies but ignore the ramifications if they are accurate….
So I don’t think it helps one bit to do these exercises, publish unconfirmed or un-studied reports, etc…. Everyone is a “know it all” but when it comes down to actually doing the work necessary to resolve it there is no sense of personal responsibility. Bet this author never writes another word about this case, never follows up on where the investigation went, never shows a hint of responsibility for the rumor he is presently mongering….

    • Tsalnew

No no no. Common sense on here is not allowed. :)

Ted, We are alone. Physics and interstellar distance is a fact. We are not being visited. Star Trek is a great concept. But the reality is we have great imaginations. Period.

  • GPE

    Google: Solar Balloon.

The phoney UFO photo shows four or six trash bags taped together. Looks obvious as a hoax but an interesting display of solar power.

  • Ken

We are being invaded by giant turds!!!

    • Cat fight !

That’s a still from from Caddyshack

  • Joe

I’d like to find a UFO. Except the UFO I’m looking for has a different connotation for the middle letter F. Hopefully I find one when I go out tonight. Wish me luck!

  • Mitch Mitchell

it’s important to keep an open mind but not so your brain flops out onto the kitchen floor and you inadvertantly kick it across the room only to have Rover run off with it. The same can be said for sufferers of CDS (chronic denial syndrome). Strange metrics out there – to be sure. Hey only 17% of the Universe is made of matter as we know it – the rest is spooky substance. We (still) stand in awe – jaded Hollywood-inspired miss-guided notions — notwithstanding.

  • Dave_D

I say that it is high time that we take action against these illegal aliens.

You’re a retard if you REALLY believe that in a universe of countless TRILLIONS of stars that we are alone in this universe. Especially when all the ancient religions support the idea of an otherworldly influence.

In 2010 alone, on our own planet, we have discovered organisms living and thriving off arsenic. Something until then we thought would poison all living things that we know of. Our understanding of the universe and everything in it is that of a infant learning to crawl. The first trick is to get rid of the notion that we are “special”. But then again, that requires education and acceptance. Two things that are far off the radar for some of you obviously.

    • Dave_D

There is a huge difference between believing that there might be life (intelligent or otherwise) elsewhere in the universe and believing that we are being (or have been) visited by intelligent life. (1) Those trillions of stars are all a long ways from here. (2) Why would any life, intelligent enough to be able to come here, want to come here. To talk to you?

And watch the “retard” stuff. Especially from someone who thinks that multiples of a trillion are countless. “Trillions” is a large number, but it is countable in principle.. And, I really don’t care what any religion (ancient or modern) says about otherworldly influence.

Education and blind acceptance are very different things. Usually education leads to a healthy dose skepticism.

  • jaygee

Rather funny that in the month of July only one or two people saw this object in the sky. Wouldn’t you think that if visitors from another galaxy bothered to come all the way to Earth, they would stop and introduce themselves? Unfortunately, there are more than a few people who spend far too much time looking up in the sky for UFO’s rather than enjoying their short life on this planet.

  • theoneandonly

To those of you who ridicule these events: You are scared, every external giggle is a frightened little whimper inside you because you have a very limited understanding of reality. The good news is, you don’t have to be a coward. All you have to do is open your mind a little, it’s really that easy.
