Apology From Christy Mihos, Potential Conflict Of Interest In Case

BOSTON (CBS) - Christy Mihos says he's seeking treatment to make him a better husband, father and person. He says he's made mistakes in judgment that have hurt the ones he loves most.

After 38 years of marriage sources tell WBZ that Andrea Mihos accuses her husband of hiring prostitutes, strippers and porn stars in three states and paying $400 to $2,000 an hour for sex.

An addiction to hiring prostitutes, strippers and porn stars for sex and a death threat that fueled an argument between Christy Mihos and his wife Andrea has sparked a criminal investigation. According to this report obtained by the I-Team, Mihos told his wife she could "easily disappear" or be hurt or killed.

WBZ-TV's Kathy Curran reports

Now comes an apology. Mihos tells the I-Team: "I am now seeking the proper course of treatment to make myself a better husband, father and person. But I am not the perfect person and have made mistakes in judgment that have hurt the ones I love most."

The allegations of Mihos are serious and disturbing. It's a case that will be heard by a clerk assigned to the Cape and Islands District Attorney's office which could pose a problem for the prosecution. DA Michael O'Keefe is an acquaintance of Mihos and the I-Team has discovered Christy and his wife have made contributions to O'Keefe's campaign for years. Campaign finance records show the couple donated $2,500 over four years.

Former US Attorney Michael Sullivan says it doesn't happen often but in general if there's even an appearance of a conflict the prosecuting office should step aside. Sullivan says, "It's an ethical concern first and foremost you want the public to have confidence in the decisions being made and made in the interest of justice not being made because of other relationships."

DA O'Keefe says, "When and if there is a case we will make the appropriate decision." Mihos' son, Christy Mihos IV, tells us this is a very difficult time for his family and wants to withhold further comment for now.

Full statement from Christy Mihos to WBZ:

"Andrea and I have been married for almost 38 years and I cherish the perfect wife she has always been. We are blessed with two wonderful children. I am now seeking the proper course of treatment to make myself a better husband, father and person. But I am not the perfect person and have made mistakes in judgement that have hurt the ones I love most. I am not the same man I was after major cancer surgery and a significant fall which left me unconscious and hurt me badly in December of 2009. I humbly ask that you respect the privacy of my marriage and my family."
