DA Probing Link Between Gunman, Cop's Wife

NEWBURYPORT (AP) — The Essex District Attorney says investigators are looking into the relationship between the wife of a Hamilton policeman and the Beverly policeman he shot and wounded.

Hamilton policeman Kenneth Nagy shot Beverly officer Jason Lantych outside a Beverly coffee shop Friday, then returned to the scene a few hours later and killed himself.

On Tuesday, Essex DA Jonathan Blodgett said Nagy's widow, Katherine, was friends with Lantych for years and worked with him as part of her job as a domestic violence advocate for the Beverly police. Blodgett's comment came at a news conference on a domestic violence program in Newburyport.

Prosecutors have said Kenneth Nagy and Lantych also knew each other and agreed to meet the night of the shooting.

Nagy also leaves two sons.

Lantych is recovering at Beverly Hospital.
