State Police Search Chestnut Hill Reservoir For Missing BC Student

CHESTNUT HILL (CBS) — The State Police Underwater Recovery Unit joined the search for a missing Boston College student Tuesday.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Ben Parker reports

Twenty-one-year-old Franco Garcia, a chemistry major, has not been seen since early Wednesday morning when he was out at Mary Ann’s bar in Cleveland Circle with friends.

The State Police boat started searching the Chestnut Hill Reservoir Monday around 10:30 a.m. using side-scan sonar. Divers also went in.  They wrapped up the water search just before 3 p.m.  They’re expected to go back in Tuesday.

A State Police helicopter conducted flyovers of the reservoir and surrounding area Sunday, but did not find anything of significance.

Family and friends say it is completely out of Garcia’s character to cut off contact. Since he disappeared, there’s been no activity from his cell phone or ATM card.

Garcia has brown hair, brown eyes and wears glasses.

He was last seen wearing jeans and a white-and-blue striped shirt.

it seems to me if you go out to a bar with your friends..don’t you leave all at once??

  • Dan #2

Not always…maybe his buddies were staying out and he had something to do in the morning and just wanted to get home.

I look at the cell/credit card activity as good and bad. Good that his cards and cell aren’t being used fraudulently and bad that it doesn’t make it any easier tracking him down or knowing that he is using them in some capacity.

Hopefully this is a case of someone just wanting/needing to get away.

the only thing is if it was foul play…hopefuly the cell phone was left on…..they can trace that if it is still on him

  • Thanks Soldiers

Why are they focusing on this Chestnut Hill Reservoir? Is the bar right next to it or did they get his last cell phone ping next to it or is there some sort of lead that leads them to believe he is in there I wonder. It is a lot of money to spend to search random bodies of water. If he has been missing since Wednesday the outcome is probably a bad one but lets hope for the families sake they get to the bottom of it.

Reservoir is right there so would not be a random body of water

  • Jen

The last activity on his cell phone was by Reservoir.

I pray they find him safe. My heart breaks for his family.

Was he lured away, and is there still a rise in hate groups in that area along with other municipalities in Massachusetts?

how do you know he was lured away…do you have the facts..if so give them to the police
