BOSTON (CBS) – The Boston Red Sox changed things up this spring, banning alcohol in the clubhouse.
The Tampa Bay Rays on the other hand, said they will continue to allow alcoholic beverages in their clubhouse, and it appears Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon took a shot at his AL East rivals when asked why.
“We’re not the Boston Red Sox,” Maddon said to the Tampa Bay Times over the weekend.
“I’ve said it a hundred times,” continued Maddon. “For me at the end of the day, I’d much prefer our players making good decisions, and if you’re of legal age, and the game is over, and you’ve sweated and lost a bunch of pounds and you want to sit down and have a beer, I see nothing wrong with that.”
With Valentine’s rule, the Red Sox are now the 19th major league teams to ban alcohol from the clubhouse.
