Mihos To Head To Court For Alleged Attack On Wife In West Yarmouth

WEST YARMOUTH (CBS) - Yarmouth police are seeking to charge former gubernatorial candidate Christy Mihos with assaulting his wife.

There are two separate investigations ongoing: one in Massachusetts and one in Florida.

Mihos will be summonsed to court for a clerk's hearing in Barnstable in March to determine whether charges will be filed in the Massachusetts case.

Both cases involve alleged assaults on his wife.

WBZ-TV's Kathy Curran reports.

In Florida, the Martin County Sheriff's office is investigating a case of domestic battery involving Mihos and his wife Andrea.

Florida investigators are looking into an assault that happened on Feb. 20 near the couple's home on Sailfish Point Boulevard in Stuart, Florida. Sources tell WBZ-TV the former turnpike authority member is accused of striking his wife of almost 40 years after an argument over illegal sexual encounters.

During his run for governor back in 2006, Mihos lovingly described the first time he laid eyes on his wife Andrea, but now it appears there are serious domestic problems.

The Florida case revealed a prior alleged assault at the couple's home in West Yarmouth last July. Yarmouth police have filed a report with the district attorney, seeking charges for assault and battery.

WBZ-TV has learned that Andrea Mihos returned to Yarmouth last week after the alleged assault in Florida and reported it to police. Sources said the Florida investigation is still in its preliminary stages.

Two things could happen in Florida. Authorities there could apply for an arrest warrant or they could turn the case over to the district attorney for a hearing to determine if charges will be filed.
