Kyle Turris Not Suspended For Hit On Joe Corvo

BOSTON (CBS) -- A forearm to the head of Bruins defenseman Joe Corvo cost Senators forward Kyle Turris two minutes in the penalty box, but that's the only punishment he'll be facing.

After Turris' disciplinary hearing with league disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan, the league decided not to suspend or fine Turris for his hit.

"After reviewing the video extensively as we heard Turris' explanation of how the play developed, we concluded that the head was not targeted intentionally or even recklessly and that the circumstances surrounding the hit contributed significantly to the amount of head contact that resulted," Shanahan explained in a statement. "We therefore have decided that there will be no supplemental discipline added to the penalty assessed on the play."

The hit took place at 5:00 of the third period of Saturday night's game between the Bruins and Senators. Corvo remained on the ice holding his head for a moment but returned to the game shortly thereafter. Turris was called for boarding.

Turris, 22, has no history of suspensions with the NHL.
