Could Bruins Be Interested In Kings Captain Dustin Brown?
BOSTON (CBS) -- Six years ago, the Bruins stunned the hockey world by trading away their captain. Now, they may want to be on the other end of such a move.
The Bruins, like many teams, are thought to now have an eye on Kings captain Dustin Brown. The 27-year-old becomes a bit more available to buying teams, after the Kings acquired Jeff Carter via trade on Thursday night. That comes as good news for the Bruins, who are without Nathan Horton for an unknown period as he recovers from a concussion and are without Rich Peverley for a month as he recovers from a knee injury.
According to ESPN's Pierre LeBrun, the Bruins at least "like" Brown, though they're hardly the only team interested. Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal also expects the Bruins to be interested in Brown.
Brown, who was one of the alternate captains for the U.S. in the 2010 Olympics, has 14 goals and 17 assists to go with a team-leading plus-6 rating this season. Browns contract runs through the 2013-14 season with a manageable $3.175 cap hit, according to CapGeek.
Despite the immediate perception that Brown could be had for a low price, TSN's Darren Dreger said on Twitter that it will take a lot for L.A. to let him go.
"GMs with interest in Dustin Brown know L.A. will need a ton in return to move their captain," he said. "A quality young D-man and solid secondary scorer part of what might land Brown. He's worth it."
