Report: Roy Oswalt Won't Join Any Team, Could Sign Midseason

BOSTON (CBS) -- And the winner of the Roy Oswalt spring sweepstakes is ... nobody.

The veteran righty was believed to be choosing his team on Thursday with an announcement, but instead news leaked that he won't be playing to start the season, according to CBSSports' Jon Heyman.

Oswalt could join a team during the season though, with his agent saying Oswalt will stay in shape and hope to join a contender during the season.

The Red Sox were thought to be interested in Oswalt, though he reportedly preferred pitching for either St. Louis or Texas.

The 34-year-old made 23 starts last year for Philadelphia, going 9-10 with a 3.69 ERA. In his lone postseason start, he allowed five earned runs over six innings in a loss to the Cardinals. In 2010, Oswalt posted an impressive 2.76 ERA with Philadelphia and Houston but only had a 13-13 record to show for it.
