Cohasset Coach Hurt In Crash With Alleged Drunk Driver

HINGHAM (CBS) - One of the state's most-accomplished high school coaches is recovering after a bad crash with a suspected drunk driver.

George "Bo" Ruggiero, 68, is in stable condition after the three-car crash Thursday night.

His car was hit head-on by a pickup truck on Route 53 in Hingham. A third car then hit both cars. That driver was not injured.

The driver of the pickup truck, 34-year-old Michael W. McKay, has been summonsed to court for a felony OUI charge.

McKay and Ruggiero were not wearing seat belts and both were transported to South Shore Hospital after the crash, police said.

Ruggiero has coached basketball at Cohasset High School the past four years.

He is a past president of the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association, and has coached at many high schools on the South Shore.
