Bradley Jay: 'Pop Stars Should Not Be Honored With Flags At Half Staff.'

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has made has made an error in judgement in ordering flags flown at half-staff at state government buildings due to the death of Whitney Houston. Marking the passing of pop stars by flying flags at half-staff is horribly wrong. This is an honor that should be reserved for those who have sacrificed for their country.

Whitney Houston was paid obscene amounts of money for singing, something she liked to do. Getting paid to sing is great work if you can get it, but it is not a sacrifice and not a service to one's country.

Flying flags at half-staff for pop stars diminishes the potency of the gesture for those who really deserve it. Houston is not a hero and does not deserve such an honor. Chris Christie is way off base with flying flags at half-staff for Whitney Houston.
