New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has made has made an error in judgement in ordering flags flown at half-staff at state government buildings due to the death of Whitney Houston. Marking the passing of pop stars by flying flags at half-staff is horribly wrong. This is an honor that should be reserved for those who have sacrificed for their country.

Whitney Houston was paid obscene amounts of money for singing, something she liked to do. Getting paid to sing is great work if you can get it, but it is not a sacrifice and not a service to one’s country.

Flying flags at half-staff for pop stars diminishes the potency of the gesture for those who really deserve it. Houston is not a hero and does not deserve such an honor. Chris Christie is way off base with flying flags at half-staff for Whitney Houston.

Here we go again. Isn’t this topic worn out by now?

I’m with Willow! I thought, when I was coming up, it was lowered if a president died. As to your point, I know thousands have died in two wars over the past 10 years at least. I never see the flag being lowered for any of them. I don’t get it! Seriously, let’s move on, that flag has flown.

This topic is not worn out by any means, we give too much credence to celebrity, this was a woman that for whatever psych reasons, squandered her life and her God given talent to drugs. Yes, her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner was brilliant, and will be long remembered during a trying time in this country, but it does not rate her the respect that comes with being a dignitary or statesmen. I feel for her family, the loss is unbearable but she was at the end of the day a celebrity, a pretty messed up one.
