Thornton On Toucher & Rich: 'Embarrassing Loss' For Bruins

BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Bruins are in a bit of a lull right now, and Shawn Thornton is hoping they break out of it soon.

"It does happen, it's been going on a little too much lately," he told 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich Thursday morning. "To get out of it, everyone has to show up to begin with…We have to have everyone going and everyone has to put in the effort.  I don't think its rocket science; there is system stuff that coaches can go through, but I don't think it's that. For us, it's just going through the motions."

The Bruins suffered a bad loss to the Sabres in Buffalo Wednesday night, 6-0, for their third in the last four games.

"We laid an egg last night. A couple calls didn't go our way, and it just snowballed from there," said Thornton. "It was a pretty embarrassing loss."

Thornton was involved in a pair of fights with the Sabres, throwing down with Cody McCorkmick in the first period and then receiving an instigator and game misconduct for his second period tussle with Mike Weber.

He did not, however, fight Patrick Kaleta, who the Bruins don't think much of.

"I'm not the hugest fan of that guy to begin with," said Thornton of Kaleta. "I'm not a big fan of whooping it up to the crowd either. The way he plays, I'll give him credit for stepping up and fighting Looch."

"There are a lot fo things he does that don't go by the code I play by," said Thornton. "He hits late and is fairly dirty I think. I guess he's effective for what they want him to do; he's very agitating. But I think he's hurt some people doing things that aren't that safe, and I'm not a big fan of that."

Toucher and Rich let some fans in on the conversation, with Adam asking Thornton what is said before and after fights.

"It's different every situation," said the B's forward. "Last night, I guess for instance, McCormick asked me and I said sure. Afterwards I said 'good job.' Actually I didn't say good job, he fell down so I said it should have kept going."

"The second one (against Weber), there was no talking. I saw him cheap shot Benny (Benoit Pouliot)… I just started swinging," he said.

The Bruins will try to regroup Saturday afternoon when they host the Nashville Predators at the TD Garden.
