BOSTON (CBS) – A young girl is turning trash into treasure and in the process helping kids with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Katie Bresnahan from Salem takes the lids from discarded medications and makes wishing flowers.

Nurses have started getting a hold of these flowers and they are catching on.

She gets $5 for each flower she makes and she donates her earnings to the Make-A-Wish foundation of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

She’s now even got her Girl Scout troop working on these flowers.
