Texas Man Accused Of Swindling New Hampshire Temple

MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS) - A man who's accused of swindling churches and synagogues across the country is now under arrest in New Hampshire.

Thirty-five-year-old Alan Farha of Carrollton, Texas was captured outside a Friendly's restaurant in Manchester Saturday afternoon, while he was eating an ice cream sundae.

Investigators say Farha conned members of Temple Adath Yeshurun out of more than $500 Friday night, after telling them during services he needed money to pay for his parents' funeral in Israel.

He's now charged with theft by deception.

Police say Farha is wanted for alleged scams in Texas, Florida, and Missouri.

The money from the Manchester incident was not recovered, police said.

Farha is being held on $1,000 cash bail.
