Report: Dice-K Throws 1st Bullpen Session Since Surgery
BOSTON (CBS) - Red Sox right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka threw his first bullpen session on Monday since undergoing Tommy John surgery last June, according to the Mainichi Daily News.
The report said that Dice-K threw his first 11 pitches with the catcher standing up, and 10 more with the catcher in the crouched position.
Dice-K told the paper that Monday's session was "like a warm-up" and that he thinks he'll "throw harder next week."
He is reportedly scheduled for a long toss session on Wednesday and another bullpen session on Friday.
He went 3-3 with a 5.30 ERA in eight games (seven starts) last season. He will be a free agent after the season.
