Belichick: No Gronkowski At Practice Thursday

By Levan Reid, WBZ-TV Sports

FOXBORO (CBS) – Patriots coach Bill Belichick was in a good mood for Thursday’s press conference, his first time in front of the media

He talked about everything pretty much everything, but when the topic of injuries popped up, he smiled wide.

Tight end Rob Gronkowski, who would have missed practice on Wednesday if there was one, is making progress according to Belichick, but will not be out there on Thursday for the Pats first practice.

“We’ll take it day by day,” said Belichick. “I’m not going to try to forecast where he’ll be 10 days from now.”

Gronkowski hurt his right ankle in New England’s 23-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship. He left late in the third quarter but was able to return in the fourth.

For some more tight end depth as they get ready for the Super Bowl, the Patriots signed Carson Butler to the practice squad.

Coach said he’ll see how it goes when it comes to offensive lineman Sebastian Vollmer, who has been fighting a bad back all season. He went on to say, if Vollmer is ready, he’s going to play.
