Newton Teacher Accused In Child Porn Case Advertised Self As Babysitter

NEWTON (CBS) – The Newton second grade teacher charged in a child pornography case previously advertised his services as a babysitter on a popular website.

Thirty-four-year-old David Ettlinger was arrested at his home last week and was ordered held on $100,000 bail after two arraignments, one for child porn possession and one for indecent assault on a child.

According to the Boston Globe, Ettlinger had an account with Sittercity.com, a website that helps parents locate experienced babysitters in their area.

"With features like detailed profiles, background checks, references and reviews, we make the process safe and easy," the site says.

"Sittercity was deeply saddened to learn of this situation. As soon as it was brought to our attention, we terminated Mr. Ettlinger's account and notified anyone who may have had contact with him about the termination," said Mary Schwartz of Sittercity.com.

Last week, Ettlinger pleaded not guilty to all charges against him. He's accused of taking multiple pairs of young girls' underwear from bathrooms, pools, and changing rooms.

He is also accused of sexually manipulating a sleeping 12-year-old girl and recording it on video, according to prosecutors.

Ettinger allegedly uploaded graphic videos of minors engaged in sex acts to a website called Dreamboard.

"The website required posters to post images of child pornography, submit them to an anonymous administrator, who then, based on the images, would allow posters access to the website," prosecutor David Deakin said last week, adding that Ettlinger had VIP status on the site.

Ettlinger is a teacher at the Underwood Elementary School and he has taught in the Newton school system for 12 years.

He has been put on paid administrative leave.
