SHIRLEY (CBS) – Rescue crews in Shirley pulled a driver out of an SUV that flipped over and crashed into a pond on Tuesday.

Firefighters rushed to the scene around 8 a.m. after the Chevy Blazer wound up upside down in about three feet of water in Leatherboard Pond.

“The vehicle had flipped over and was submerged under water. Rescuers got here within minutes. The fire station is only about a half mile away,” Shirley Police Chief Gregory Massak said.

Rescuers were able to break out the back window of the SUV and free the driver.
