Snowmobiler Dies After Falling Through Ice In Dudley

DUDLEY (CBS) - A snowmobiler from Southbridge was killed after falling through the ice on New Pond in Dudley on Saturday.

Richard C. Redfield, 27, was snowmobiling with two others when the three of them went through the ice about 100 yards offshore. Redfield was in the water for at least 15 minutes before he was rescued and later died at the hospital.

The two other mean, 37-year-old Jeffrey P. Lougie and 47-year-old Wayne Montigny, 47, were able to get out of the water with help from responding crews. The two survivors are from Killingly, Connecticut.

The Worcester County district attorney's office, Dudley police, and state environmental police are investigating.
