Richard C. Redfield, 27, was snowmobiling with two others when the three of them went through the ice about 100 yards offshore. Redfield was in the water for at least 15 minutes before he was rescued and later died at the hospital.

The two other mean, 37-year-old Jeffrey P. Lougie and 47-year-old Wayne Montigny, 47, were able to get out of the water with help from responding crews. The two survivors are from Killingly, Connecticut.

The Worcester County district attorney’s office, Dudley police, and state environmental police are investigating.

    Very sad…

I’m sorry, “100 yards offshore…” did these guys even bother watching the weather we’ve been having?…

What a shame – My condolences to his family and friends.
