If Patriots Win, Menino Will Get Crab Cakes

BOSTON (CBS) – Mayor Menino once again is betting on the Patriots to win Sunday in Foxboro.

Boston’s mayor is betting a lobster dinner that the Patriots will win the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens.

In exchange, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has offered up a platter of famous Maryland crab cakes if (and when) the Patriots win.

“I’m confident in the Patriots. They put together a great team that works well together on the field, but of course we all need to stay focused on the game at hand,” Mayor Menino said. “I hope to be enjoying some Baltimore crab cakes when it’s over.”

Mayor Menino’s office cleverly referred to the friendly wager as a “Clash of the Crustaceans.”

Menino already has a Colorado steak dinner coming his way after last week’s bet with Denver Mayor Michael Hancock.

With all four of Boston’s major sports teams having won championships in the past decade, Menino has grown pretty accustomed to winning these wagers.

That is a HORRIBLE headline.. What are they getting him? A prostitute from Baltimore? Someone at Ch4 needs to review headlines before putting them on the web..

I bring this question to the table because I’m starting to feel it’s bugging me…Menino does this like 10 times a year. At what point does it stop being totally cool that this overweight rich guy is eating all this free, expensive food when there are people in the city of Boston starving? It’s great that he’s eating Colorado steaks, Maryland Crabcakes and probably a vat of Chinese Food from San Francisco or a year’s supply of bagels from NY after the Super Bowl…but at what point does this just become insulting to the rest of us. How about a bet where the City of Baltimore donates some Brady jerseys to a local Boys and Girls Club instead of a bet where Menino gets to saple the delicacies of the United States like I do when I go to EPCOT with the tastes of the world. As he is a public servant, there’s got to be a better use for this idea for the general public than, “Hey! Pats win again! Someone owes me a free expensive meal!”

Why is Menino getting anything? As I remember, the City of Boston didn’t want a stadium for the Patriots, which is why the play in FOXBOROUGH.
