Report: Fenway Planning Liverpool-AS Roma Game For This Summer

BOSTON (CBS) - Organizers are planning to host an exhibition soccer match at Fenway Park this summer between Liverpool and AS Roma, according to the Boston Globe's Frank Dell'Apa.

"Throughout its 100-year history, Fenway Park has seen some of the best in athletic competition," Fenway Sports Management president Sam Kennedy told the Globe. "And while we are exploring the possibility of hosting a Liverpool match - which certainly rises to that level - nothing has been finalized."

According to the report, no date for the match has been set, but Liverpool has made preliminary plans to be in the Boston area from June 20 - July 4.

The match would reportedly be apart of a tournament involving Chelsea FC and possibly Celtic FC, with other games taking place at baseball stadiums in Chicago and/or New York City.

John Henry, the Red Sox principle owner, also owns the Liverpool football club.

AS Roma, meanwhile, was taken over last year by a group that includes Red Sox minority owner Thomas DiBenedetto and Celtics part-owner James Pallotta.
