Passenger Arraigned In Alleged OUI Crash That Injured 5-Year-Old
BROOKLINE (CBS) - A 5-year-old boy who was seriously injured in a crash is expected to be released from the hospital soon.
The boy's stepfather, William Gomez was charged on Tuesday with permitting substantial injury to a child and permitting unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Police say Gomez and the 5-year-old were passengers in a car that 37-year-old Luis Parraga crashed into a pole Friday night.
Prosecutors say the car belonged to Gomez and that Parraga and Gomez were both drunk.
"(Gomez) goes to pick up this child from the babysitter; then goes and gets intoxicated with another individual; then makes the sound judgment of allowing the other intoxicated individual to drive his car," Prosecutor George Papchristos told a judge on Tuesday.

Gomez was ordered held on $2,500 bail.
His stepson, who was listed in critical condition this weekend, is said to be recovering after undergoing surgery.
Parraga has not yet been arraigned. He's expected to face a number charges related to the crash and could face deportation.
Brookline police said on Saturday that they requested an ICE Detainer for Parraga, which typically indicates a person is suspected of being in the country illegally.
