Accused Drunk Driver Hurt In Freetown Crash, Passenger Killed

FREETOWN (AP) — The driver of a car that crashed on Route 24 in Freetown killing a passenger has been charged with drunken driving.

State police say 27-year-old William Lucas of Fall River was behind the wheel of the southbound car that went out of control and struck both guardrails at about 4:15 p.m. on Sunday.

One passenger, 24-year-old Jerry Samedy of Brockton, was taken to Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River where he was pronounced dead. Another passenger, 32-year-old Jerome Moton, received minor injuries.

Police say Lucas was charged with second offense drunken driving, driving with a suspended license and motor vehicle homicide. He was taken into custody when he was released from the hospital.

He is expected to be arraigned Monday.
