Romney, Haley Stay On Message Despite New Jobs Numbers

TILTON, NH (CBS) - Mitt Romney is disciplined and focused about staying on message on the campaign trail.

But his criticism of President Obama comes with new jobs numbers out that show signs of hope.

WBZ asked Romney's surrogate, and rising GOP star South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, whether good economic news for the country is bad news for Romney.

Governor Haley says the president's plans, such as stimulus packages and Cash for Clunkers, haven't worked, and it's time for another option.

"None of those programs that the president tried to push gave us a job growth," she says.

An old foe also came out today, attacking Romney's history of job creation.

Randy Johnson helped Ted Kennedy in the 1994 Senate race against Romney, saying he was laid off because Romney put profits before people.

"He's never been the CEO of a company that produces something," said Johnson. "The only thing he's ever produced is profits for the rich. You have to have money to make money."

Governor Haley defended Romney saying, "You're gonna find disgruntled employees, you're gonna find people that have been laid off and people that have been hired, that's what happens in the private sector."
