The chair lift at Ski Ward in Shrewsbury
SHREWSBURY (CBS) – The teen who died after falling from a ski lift Wednesday evening may have suffered a seizure before the fall.
Eighteen-year-old Jack Street of Upton was training with teammates from the Nipmuc Regional High School ski team at Ski Ward in Shrewsbury when he may have suffered a seizure while riding up the hill on a ski lift, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early.
Street fell from the lift and landed face down on the icy ground, about 30 feet below.
He was rushed to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester where he died less than hour later.
Grief counselors were available for students and friends at Nipmuc High Thursday.
“(A) very, very strong sense of grieving is going right now. I think we’re all very much in shock.” Nipmuc Superintendent Dr. Joseph Maruszczak told WBZ-TV.
This was Street’s first year on the team.
Relatives say skiing was his passion and he wanted to go to college in Vermont to be near the slopes.
