STURBRIDGE (CBS) – Police are expected to announce new developments this week in a decades-old missing person case out of central Massachusetts.
Holly Piirainen was last seen alive in Sturbridge in August 1993.
Hunters discovered her remains in the woods of Brimfield two months later.
The case has gone unsolved for 19 years. But the Hampden County D.A. says recent forensic findings have resulted in a new investigative lead in the 10-year-old’s disappearance.
Holly was visiting her grandmother’s summer cottage and went to see a neighbor’s puppies with her 5-year-old brother.
The brother returned back to the cottage without Holly.
The D.A. plans to hold a news conference on Tuesday in Springfield to discuss the new developments in the case.
Piirainen’s parents, brothers and grandmother are all expected to be there.
