ATTLEBORO (CBS) – The police chief in Attleboro is now admitting that someone stole cocaine and other illegal narcotics from the police department’s evidence room back in August.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Karen Twomey reports.
The discovery was made during a routine audit of the facility in August. At the time, officers looking through the paperwork realized that cocaine and other drugs seized by police were missing.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s office and the state Attorney General’s office are also looking into the matter.
In a statement, Mayor Kevin Dumas said this type of conduct will not be tolerated.
Since the theft, all keys to the evidence room have been confiscated, and locks were changed.
An electronic device logs the identity of everyone who goes into the room and surveillance cameras will soon be added as well.
