BOSTON (CBS) – Christmas is a time for giving and a young couple from Brighton learned that lesson after losing some valuable rings.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Carl Stevens reports
This story started a few days ago.
John Hart had some work done on his wife’s engagement ring and their wedding rings.
He picked up the rings, put them in his coat pocket and got on the T.
“And as soon as I got off the train, I had a slight moment of panic,” he told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Friday.
The rings were gone, nowhere to be found. He ran home to tell his wife, Erin, who was nine months pregnant.
“She was so calm. I was sure that she was going to panic. She was absolutely fine. She was calming me down, saying ‘breathe,’ basically going through the breathing techniques we learned in birthing classes.”
John calmed down and called DePrisco Jewelers in downtown Boston, which is where they had the work done on the rings.
“I said, ‘Well did he do a prayer to St. Anthony? Shall I do a prayer to St. Anthony? Should someone do a prayer to St. Anthony?’”Donna DePrisco told WBZ.
“This is a person that really, really could not afford the diamond. It wasn’t a huge diamond, but nonetheless a diamond when he purchased it. I said ‘Let me give this some thought.’”
The Harts have been on a very tight budget because of their baby.
“He said his wife was expecting a child within the next day or two. I said ‘Holy Good God we’ve got to do this. We just have to replace this,’” DePrisco said.
“I lost my breath, I couldn’t believe it. Absolutely stunned,” Hart said.
DePrisco had the rings delivered to Hart at work.
“I’ll tell you the truth, you think you would have given that guy a million dollars,” she said.
An hour and 45 minutes after they received the beautiful replacement rings, John’s wife Erin went into labor.
“I think the rings really gave her that extra push she was looking for, no pun intended,” he said.
Cameron Hart was born Thursday morning, shortly after midnight.
His parents are grateful and Donna DePrisco has a big smile on her face.
“St. Francis wrote – it is in giving that we receive. None other than this time do I really feel that spirit,” she said.
