Report: Bill Buckner To Coach At Cubs Minor League Affiliate
BOSTON (CBS) - Former Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner is in line to become the new hitting coach of the Cubs' Class-A affiliate, according to ESPN's Jeremy Schapp.
Schapp reports that Buckner, who lives in Boise, Idaho, will become the first base coach with the Class A affiliate Boise Hawks in 2012.
Bobby Valentine had expressed interest in bringing Buckner, his good friend, on his staff. Buckner reciprocated some interest, but Red Sox front office members were resistant to the idea, according to ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes.
Buckner played with the Cubs from 1977-1984.
