Psych Evaluation For Man Accused Of Smashing Storefronts At NH Mall

NEWINGTON, N.H. (AP) — A 34-year-old man charged with smashing storefront windows and display cases at seven stores at a New Hampshire mall is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.

Michael Williams, of Dover, is facing seven felony charges of criminal mischief for allegedly using a hammer to smash the windows and countertops at stores at the Fox Run Mall in Newington on Dec. 8. Police say Williams was speaking incoherently during the outburst, but was polite and orderly when he was arrested.

A judge this week agreed to delay Williams' probable cause hearing until January so he can undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

During Williams' arraignment, his mother said he suffers from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and that his actions were a "cry for help."
