DANVERS (CBS) – A young girl who was battling cancer along with her mother, has passed away.
Just months after her mom was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, 18-month-old Saoirse Fitzgerald was diagnosed with Stage 4, nMYC amplified, Neuroblastoma in May of 2011.
After battling the illness for several months, on Tuesday, Mike and Kezia Fitzgerald announced Saoirse had died.
“Our beautiful baby girl Saoirse passed away,” they wrote on Twitter, “after fighting to stay alive. She was so tough.”
They told friends and followers on Facebook that, “Our baby has no more pain today. She fought the whole way through.”
Hundreds of condolences appeared on the family’s Facebook page from family members and friends, along with people who followed their story.
Kezia, who has documented the family’s ordeal all year on her blog, is in remission.
