Mother Says Autistic Son May Have Been Sexually Assaulted At Dorchester School

BOSTON (CBS) - A mother says her 14-year-old son may have been sexually assaulted at a school in Boston.

The woman said she was called to the Harbor Pilot School on Charles Street in Dorchester Monday, but school officials would only tell her there was an "incident."

Boston police told her her son may have been molested or raped by a staff member.

The teen is autistic and cannot speak.

His mother said she raced to the school but no one would tell her anything including the principal.

"She (the principal) says, 'I'm not sure what happened to your son, it was an incident that happened with your son'," she told WBZ-TV.

She said only talking with police in the parking lot at the school did she find out what happened.

"He was in there with another teacher, when another teacher walked into the break room," said the mother. "The teacher was there with his pants opened."

The suspect is not a teacher, but a paraprofesssional who specializes in special needs students. He started at Harbor School this year.

The teen's mother said she was told her son was either molested or raped by the staff member, so she brought him to the Boston Medical Center to get checked out.

She says, "All I know is that my son just have to go through the whole STD thing, take HIV medicine for the next 28 days, and go through the whole mental emotional trauma."

Boston School Superintendent Carol Johnson has put the staff member accused of assaulting the teen on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.

Johnson also spoke with the student''s parents.

Police will only say that they are investigating a report of an indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

No one has been arrested at this point.
