Patriots Chung To Miss 5th Straight Game

BOSTON (CBS) - Safety Patrick Chung, offensive lineman Dan Connolly, linebacker Brandon Spikes and running back Shane Vereen have all been downgraded to out for Sunday's game against the Redskins, the New England Patriots announced Saturday.

The team added Gerard Warren and Ryan Mallett to their inactive list Sunday morning. Warren was no listed on the practice/injury report all week, so he is a healthy scratch.

Chung will miss his fifth straight game after suffering a foot injury in New England's 24-20 loss to the Giants on November 6. Spikes will also miss his fifth straight after he suffered an injury in the Giants loss as well.

Connolly has been slowed by a groin injury over the last month and will miss his third straight game, joining offensive lineman Sebastian Vollmer as banged up lineman. Vollmer was ruled out on Friday's injury report.

Rookie running back Shane Vereen has struggled to deal with a hamstring issues throughout thee season, and could soon find himself on the IR if he cannot get healthy.

Not appearing on the inactive list for the first time in over a month is linebacker Dane Fletcher, who underwent several thumb surgeries. Fletcher has 10 tackles in six game for New England this season.
