Gronk On Setting Records: Victories Are All That Matter

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski spoke with 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich on Thursday to talk about his three touchdown game against the Colts last Sunday, how teams are covering him, and being on the list of possible MVPs candidates this season.

Three touchdowns in one game at any level is a great accomplishment, and one that not many players get to experience. How many times has Gronkowski done this in his life?

"That was my third time doing it. I did it my sophomore year in college, my rookie year last year, and then this year again. It's cool when you get those days," said Gronkowski.

Rich found an article that said Gronkowski was number ten on his list of possible MVPs this year. How does Gronk feel now that he's getting more attention from the media, setting records, and now talk of being a possible MVP, all in just his second year?

"That's all cool and everything, but none of that stuff really matters man. All that matters is getting the victory and all that matters is the team," Gronk said.

It seems that Gronk always finds way to get open. Was it easier against the Colts or have teams just not figured out a way to cover him?

"I think it's just overall how good our team is, about how good our weapons are on the wide receiver core, our running backs and with Aaron in there too. You can't just focus on one person because if you do someone else is going to dominate," said the tight end.

The guys also talked about the success of the Patriots no huddle offense. Is the no huddle something that they decide on before hand, something the coaches decide on or is it done on the field? Some receivers have had trouble with the no huddle offense, but Gronk has seemed to catch on fast. Is it that hard of a thing to grasp?

"It definitely takes awhile because when you're first getting in you're trying to learn the playbook which is pretty hard, it's a whole new language coming in from your college team and everything. Then when you go no huddle you have less time to think, you have less time to react so it makes it even harder," Gronk said.
