HYANNIS (CBS) – The Steamship Authority ferry “Eagle” had an accident as it was pulling out for its Nantucket run Sunday morning.
The “Eagle” nudged another ship, the ferry boat “Sankaty,” which was stationary, after 9 a.m.
The Coast Guard says the “Eagle” suffered a gash well above the water line. There was no flooding on board and no injuries were reported.
The “Eagle” was out of commission, however, until 2:45 p.m.
This is the busiest weekend for the steamship after Labor Day. It’s the Christmas stroll weekend on Nantucket, with most stroll-goers scheduled to head home Sunday afternoon.
