Search Continues For Escaped NH Prisoner, Dad Charged With Aiding & Abetting

ALFRED, Maine (AP) — Police used tracking dogs and two airplanes Saturday as they searched in southern Maine for a man considered armed and dangerous following his escape from a county jail in New Hampshire.

Police were looking for David Glenn Hobson, 33, of Alfred, who escaped Thursday from the Carroll County House of Corrections in Ossipee, N.H., where he was awaiting trial on a burglary charge. Hobson escaped by climbing over the jail's razor-wire fence, officials said.

Police believe Hobson has a gun and is out to harm at least two people he knows in southern Maine, Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said. Those people have been notified and are believed to be in a safe location, McCausland said, declining to specify their relationship with Hobson.

"We think he's armed, dangerous and desperate," McCausland said. "And we think he's seriously injured from scaling the fence."

Maine State Police were joined in the search by New Hampshire State Police, the Maine Warden Service, the U.S. Marshals Service and local law enforcement agencies, McCausland said.

Hobson, who has a long criminal record, is described as white, 5-foot-6-inches tall and weighing 135 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and sweatpants. His police mug shot shows him with a shaved head.

Police believe he may be driving one of two vehicles — a 2004 black Toyota Highlander or a 2004 blue Honda Accord — that were reported stolen Friday in Wakefield, N.H., and Sanford, Maine.

Hobson's 55-year-old father, Glenn Hobson, was charged Friday night with hindering apprehension and refusing to submit to arrest. Troopers say they found medical supplies, food, water, clothing and blankets the elder Hobson left outside near his Alfred home for his son.
