Valentine In Dominican To Recruit Ortiz
BOSTON (CBS) -Bobby Valentine is not wasting much time to help build his new team.
A day after being introduced as the new manager of the Boston Red Sox, Valentine was already on his way down to the Dominican Republic to recruit DH David Ortiz. He is also slated to play in Ortiz' charity golf tournament over the weekend.
Valentine stressed the importance of getting to know every player on his new team when introduced on Thursday, and Ortiz would be a good start. The Sox have already offered the DH arbitration, and he has stated numerous times he would like to return to Boston.

A visit from his potential new manager will only help everyone's cause.
Boston general manager Ben Cherington said Thursday he and Ortiz' agent have spoken about a new deal, and those talks will continue as the winter meetings get underway in Dallas over the weekend.
