Lynn To Fine Sex Offender $300 A Day If He Doesn't Move Out

LYNN (CBS) - The city of Lynn will soon give a sex offender 30 days to move out of his home or face a fine of $300 a day against his property.

Sixty-year-old Richard Galzerano bought his house back in August.

The problem is the house is close to a couple schools and he's a level three sex offender.

The city wants him to leave, because he's violating Lynn's sex offender ordinance.

Galzerano told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Friday he plans to fight to keep his house.

"I'm working to incorporate into a community; I don't consider myself a threat in any way."

Parents who have children in nearby schools have been notified and there will be a community meeting at the Shoemaker Elementary School Wednesday night.

Lynn City Council President Timothy Phelan told WBZ the city will notify Galzerano that he has 30 days to "move out of his house" or he will accrue a penalty of $300 a day levied against his property.

While the city can't forcibly evict him, the costs could add up to such an extent that he could lose his home if he doesn't move out.

This is the first time that the city has asked a homeowner to move because of a violation of Lynn's sex offender ordinance, which is several years old.

Galzerano doesn't have to sell his house, he just has to move out.
