Red Sox, Valentine To Talk Monday

BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Red Sox will meet with Bobby Valentine on Monday to talk about their open managerial job, WBZ-TV's Dan Roche has confirmed.

General Manager Ben Cherington, back from a scouting trip in the Dominican Republic, and the Red Sox brass will meet with the 61-year-old Valentine, who appears to be the front-runner to land the job.

The two sides have met before, although Valentine was never considered a serious candidate until Dale Sveum was not offered the job after his second interview with the team. Sveum has since been named manager of the Chicago Cubs.

The Red Sox have already interviewed Torey Lovullo, Gene Lamont and Sandy Alomar Jr. about the position, and it is possible they could speak to one of them a second time.
