Dueling Online Petitions Emerge Regarding Occupy Harvard

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) - Dueling petitions supporting the Occupy Harvard protesters and requesting the protestors leave Harvard Yard have popped up online.

Petitions: Occupy Harvard | Free Harvard Yard

Hundreds of students and faculty members have already signed an online petition in support of the demonstrators.

"Occupy Harvard is a movement that challenges the vast political and economic inequalities in the United States and around the world. At Harvard, we have a duty to examine our own role in contributing to these disparities and should seek out ways to create a more just world. Therefore, we support Occupy Harvard in the pursuit of this goal," the petition states.

But, another group has launched a counter-petition urging them to leave Harvard Yard, and for the university to re-open access to the area for the public.

"We petition Occupy Harvard to relocate their camp from the Yard or to alter the vehicle for their vocal activism.... We petition Harvard Univeristy, as a result, to end all gate restrictions."

The university has restricted access to the yard to just students and faculty since protesters began camping out on Nov. 9.

The counter-petition has already received hundreds of signatures as well.
