BOSTON (CBS) – Its a virtually pain-free way to get rid of those unattractive varicose veins. Annie Dyas underwent a new procedure called foam sclerotherapy and says, “It really has been like an absolute life changing thing.” Life changing because the treatment got rid of the bulging veins that have been on her legs for at least the last 10 years.

To make the foam an FDA-approved soapy substance is mixed with carbon dioxide. The foam is then injected directly into the vein. The injection is able to fill up the entire vein and cut off the blood flow. Doctors have found this foam can work better than the liquid version on those larger, bulging veins.

WBZ-TV’s Paula Ebben reports

Dr. Ari Soffer says, “I truly believe this is revolutionary. Its revolutionary because this one is not a little painless. Its completely painless.”

The foam therapy can cost about $200 – 500 a treatment. But, there’s always a chance you’ll need more than one treatment to make those varicose veins completely disappear.

Check with you doctor to make sure this procedure is right for you. And it never hurts to call your insurance company to see if it might be covered.
