Somerville Man Arrested In Connection With Recent Assaults

SOMERVILLE (CBS) - Somerville Police have arrested a 22-year-old Somerville man in connection with a string of recent attacks on women.

"Our goal was to try to restore some safety and security to these neighborhoods that are good working class neighborhoods. I think we made a step forward, but people should remain vigilant no matter where they are," said Deputy Police Chief Paul Upton after the arrest.

Victims picked Alfredo Romero Posada from a line-up of six men. He's facing charges in connection with an attack on Wallace Street September 10th, College Avenue September 24th, and a third attack in Medford October 22nd.

That leaves three similar assaults on women in Somerville still unsolved, including the most recent at 1:30 Thursday morning. "We're still looking at him in connection with one or more others," said Upton. He says Police will continue to step up patrols in the Davis Square and Porter Square neighborhoods.

Thursday, police sent out email and telephone messages warning residents. Somerville detectives have been working with police in Medford, Cambridge, and at Tufts and Harvard, as well as MBTA Police.
