WESTFIELD (CBS) – A 15-year-old has admitted to stomping a duck to death at Stanley Park in Westfield last Friday, according to CBS 3 in Springfield.

The teen was arrested Tuesday and charged with animal cruelty and killing a domestic animal, according to our sister station.

The Muscovy Duck, named “Ozzie,” was a fixture at the park for years.

“We are very thankful to all those who assisted in this matter. The support throughout the community for Ozzie has been astounding. We thank all of you for your kind words and support during this time,” park officials said on their website.

The park is still accepting donations to the “Ozzie Fund” to pay for the installation of streaming cameras for the entire area.

SO WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO THIS PUNK…A BEATING IN THE PARK SHOULD BE GOOD

    • tsal1

That’d be a great thing to teach the children already upset by the duck’s loss. The boy beats the duck so that justifies the boy being beaten in public. How about something that might have a lasting affect. Cleaning chicken coops, sweeping walks in public even wearing a sign that advertises why, no license until 21. He’s 15 and is hungry for his license. There are a whole lot better ideas (not saying mine are the answer) than beating someone while children look on.

I think your ideas AND beating him in public would be a good punishment. And why not make HIM pay for the security cameras instead of getting donations.

Guaranteed that if we had corporal punishment (lashings), crime would go down. At least no repeat offenders.

Let’s not forget ‘Hannah’, she lost a chunk of her innocence along with her feathered friend!

Like I said the other day, ‘Ozzie’s’ legacy & justice!

For starters, ‘NO’ drivers license till their 18!….You’ll hear their ‘eyeballs, ‘CLICK’, with this one!!

      ‘THEN’.

No ‘Cell phones’ or ‘Video Games’, for 1 year…&…. If found with either, we then put ‘Mommy & Daddy’ in the slammer, each on alternating weekends for a month, while JR pulls ‘latrine’ duty @ the same facility.

Have them work towards financing a proper ‘Memorial’ to ‘Ozzie’ & they must ‘apologize’ to ‘Hannah’ & the other friends of ‘Ozzie’ in person @ the dedication!

      gramps….PS

‘last’, 21 won’t work, it’s a perfect excuse for him to stay @ home on ‘mothers milk’ for 3 more years (on my dime), cause he can’t get a job…..He’ll be just like one of your ‘beloved occupires’…..

Another poor misguided youth. Probably comes from a dysfuntional family. Or maybe he was just bored. Maybe he was being bullied at school so he took it out on the duck. Too many twinkies perhaps or too much Halloween candy. Violent video games, too much TV. There used to be reform schools to send them to. Or the military. Community service.

    • tsal1

mark from what I understand when when they take the kids into the local jails and prisons to “scare them straight” it sadly has little effect. I’d guess reform schools do not do much more than become a prison that does not help to reform but turns kids out even worse than when they went in.

Can you just see this happening?….watching that helpless animal who did nothing to justify being stomped to death. He neeeds harsh punishment!!! probation until hes 21 Min. to have that hang over his misguided brain. If I had my way…………………………………..

  • Denise

I think a good start would be to publish his picture so everyone knows who he is – part of the teaching your actions have consequences… and hiding him (minor or not) is just showing him that he’s not really be held accountable for his actions. We have no problem pasting the faces of any “adult” on TV when they are accused of something and then we never hear if they actual are or if they’re found out not to be guilty… that it was just someone that was looking for their 15 minutes that decided to create some drama! He made us all care and get angry – now what – he gets to hide and continue on… He was a big brave boy to kill a poor innocent duck – what next?

  • emom

Community service REALLY ,all that will do is, well nothing. What will they make him do sweep , do trash, WHAT. PLEASE this kid needs harsh punishment. What will community service do to teach how wrong he was. He will only laugh in the end. Knowing he did a horrible thing and only had to clean or sweep. PLEASE, that will never teach these kids a lesson… HARSH PUNISHMENTS. I remember the days when they were sent away to camps for the summer, MILITARY was the choice for most, this kid OH NO If killing is what he likes to do how about a more fitting punishment…. You want him to clean, sweep, get dirty… How about this,,, Have him work in a morgue both for humans and animals, NO I MEAN IT. If this punk likes death maybe being around them will show him the gruesome side of what death is all about. Oh and lets not just have him work for a week OH no how about a month, Lets throw in the cemetery lets dig a few graves. Have him stand there watching the families wail over their graves, have him see the suffering of their losses. Show him what he has done is no joy ride and that life is far more important than what his misguided thought process gives him.
Oh and he cant go home during this punishment. NO He goes to jail then to work back to jail till its over with. Living at home is like a vacation for him. Take away all his rights., after all he didn’t think about the rights of others so he to should loose his rights.

    • BARBARIC

      emom,

You need to relax. Bitter much?

      • Sammie

But she’s right ON the money

  • tsal1

Putting a kid in jail is about the last place I’d want him. That’s simply introducing him to a different kind of violence and different kind of crime. I agree regular community service will not be sufficient. I was thinking he should work with rescue animals. That teaches compassion. I don’t understand why people want to teach a kid not to use violence by using violence on him. It simply serves to show his tendency toward violence is the right solution. As far as identifying him to the public, if it can be done legally and I think it can be, then he should be identified. Perhaps a scarlet letter type solution.

  • emom

    BARBARIC,
HELL NO. Sick of these kids getting a pat on the back, disrespecting people, thinking they can do no wrong and get away with everything they do , All while their parents and other adults around them just look the other way and think.., OH they are just expressing themselves,
Justice needs to be served , and not by candy coating all that has been done. HARSH punishments is what is needed these days as it was served to them decades ago.,. If it takes a dose of reality to do that SO be it..

  • emom

Why because I feel these kids need to learn respect for everything, Really and what do you propose we do , Let them just rake leaves, No they need hard work and a dose of reality.

  • emom

Relax, really with teens and young kids running amok and destroying, hurting and killing ,, Bitter hardly , angry and mad and sick of these kids getting the coddled approach.. Firm and harsh punishment is needed for these kids. Not given a light and easy punishment. First its a duck then its a person where does this kind of behavior end. and when will society start to realize its a problem. I will relax when people get their act together ans start doing something about it.

if a person can harm an innocent animal, shows his true character. this person will hurt others, just a matter of time.

this is a test of a comment..

  • Robin Ray

OMG! I am so sick right now. It is time for much harsher punishment for these kinds of crimes against the helpless.

  • Rocket

A little serial killer in the making…

How did it feel to stomp that helpless animal to death, huh tough boy?
